Temporary darkening of pigmentation
For 2–3 days after treatment, treated spots may appear darker or develop minor crusting. This is a natural process as pigmentation is broken down and rises to the skin surface. It will naturally shed within 5–7 days, so avoid picking at it.
Sunscreen is essential
Applying sunscreen after pigmentation treatment is crucial for maintaining results. Be sure to use it diligently both outdoors and indoors.
Focus on moisturization and regeneration
Using products with brightening and regenerative properties after treatment can enhance results. Keep the skin well-moisturized to prevent dryness.
Avoid irritating conditions
For one week post-treatment, avoid activities that may irritate the skin or cause inflammation, such as scrubs, saunas, intense exercise, alcohol, and smoking.
Are melasma, blemishes, and freckles treated with the same laser?
No, not at all. Each type of pigmentation sits at a different depth within the skin, and the key is using the exact wavelength that matches that depth. For example, superficial freckles respond best to 532 nm, while deeper melasma is treated more effectively with 1064 nm. That’s why DERNA uses a variety of devices to deliver customized treatments tailored to each type of pigmentation.
I've had multiple laser toning sessions, but why didn't I see results?
Standard laser toning may not deliver enough energy to break down deep pigmentation, or it may not match your specific pigmentation type. For stubborn or complex melasma, picosecond lasers like PicoSure, which fragment pigment much more finely than conventional lasers, or a combined treatment based on precise diagnosis, are often required.
My pigmentation appears darker after treatment. Is this a problem?
No, it's actually a positive sign. The laser breaks down pigment particles, which rise to the skin surface and temporarily appear darker. These pigments will naturally form tiny crusts and shed within a few days, leaving your skin noticeably clearer than before.

Simply removing dark spots alone doesn’t make the skin look truly clear. To achieve a bright, even complexion, both pigmentation at different depths and the overall skin tone need to be treated together. At DERNA, we create personalized treatment plans using PicoSure, BBL (Brighton 2), and Re:Pot to fade uneven pigmentation and brighten dull skin. We help restore smooth, flawless skin texture and your skin’s natural, radiant glow.
